- This is a contract register, not an award list. It is presented as the City presents it, with 63 contracts in total: 59 in the June 2026 register and 4 in the August 2026 register.
- Most amounts are not totals. Most contracts say "Rates Apply" or "Rate based" in the "Amount Awarded (VAT inc)" column. That means the supplier is paid per unit or per job, up to the budget. We show both columns exactly as printed: the budgeted amount and the amount awarded.
- Many contracts go to a panel of several suppliers. One pre-qualified construction list (SCM/1244/C) names 131 companies under a single R50 million budget. Being on a panel does not mean being paid.
- The register has errors. Item numbers skip (49, then 59), one row has no number, and one description is unreadable in the PDF's text. One budget is printed as 9,744,880,062.00 against an award of R8,990,320.57. Supplier names and spellings are copied as printed. The PDF cells are merged, so check the PDF before relying on any one row.
- We found no register for September 2026 or later. The listing is not an accusation of wrongdoing. Corrections: support@mkweli.tech.
Why city by city
South Africa has no single complete list of who won public tenders. National Treasury's eTenders portal shows the winner for only about 1 in 5 finished tenders (Awardee count, 12 October 2026), and municipalities are not obliged to share data with Treasury.
Done: City of Cape Town, City of Ekurhuleni, City of Johannesburg, Mangaung, Buffalo City, Nelson Mandela Bay. State-owned companies done: Eskom, Transnet, SANRAL. No current list: we found no regular official 2026 award list for Tshwane or eThekwini (Durban). That gap is itself a finding.

In its audited 2024/25 financial statements, the City reported spending R85,827,368 in 2024/25 (2023/24: R4,393,261, as printed) on "Suppliers in which close family members of employees, councillors/ directors or mayor have an interest". The City named no suppliers and no people: there are no company names, no names of the related persons, no posts and no relations.
The Auditor-General, in the audit findings reproduced in the City's 2024/25 annual report, noted that this disclosure (Note 51.2) is not in line with SCM Regulation 45, because "the particulars of the names, capacity and the amounts have been omitted".
The law requires this disclosure (Municipal Supply Chain Management Regulation 45 and the MFMA). Disclosing is not an irregularity, and nobody is accused of anything. With no company names to match, no supplier in the contract register below has a badge. The register lists contracts in place, not monthly awards.
