- Amounts are shown exactly as reported by the City. For most awards the City prints "Rates" (paid at agreed unit rates as and when work is needed) or "N/A", not a rand total. We do not estimate amounts. In August the City labels the column "Estimated amount".
- Only formal bids published on these pages are covered. Quotations and other purchases are not.
- Cancelled, extended and withdrawn bids are kept, shown separately and marked as such. Tenders with several winners or several categories are kept together under one tender number.
- The City gives the month an award was reported, not a decision date, so that is what we show.
- Names and wording are copied as printed. Being listed is not an accusation of wrongdoing. Corrections: support@mkweli.tech.
Family links the City itself disclosed
Possible link: to verify. This is not a finding of wrongdoing.
The law requires each municipality to disclose, in its audited financial statements, tenders awarded to close family members of people in the service of the state (Municipal Supply Chain Management Regulation 45). Disclosing such an award is required by law; the disclosure itself is not an irregularity. In its 2024/25 statements (year to 30 June 2025, note 53), the City of Ekurhuleni lists:
| Contract | Supplier | Relation | City employee (as printed) | Role (as printed) | Amount (as printed) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|

Why city by city
South Africa has no single complete list of who won public tenders. National Treasury's eTenders portal shows the winner for only about 1 in 5 finished tenders (Awardee count, 12 October 2026), and municipalities are not obliged to share data with Treasury. Each city publishes, or fails to publish, on its own site, in its own format.
Done: City of Cape Town, City of Ekurhuleni, City of Johannesburg, Mangaung, Buffalo City, Nelson Mandela Bay. State-owned companies done: Eskom, Transnet, SANRAL. No current list: we found no regular official 2026 award list for Tshwane or eThekwini (Durban). That gap is itself a finding.
